Turning & Grinding of a XT ABS Shaft for the
Tuson, an experienced provider of precision machining services, was contacted by an automotive customer to manufacture a component of an ABS control unit, requiring a custom fabrication approach that would not be possible without our diverse skill set and talented personnel.
We manufactured this part on a CNC-based automatic lathe and a centerless grinding unit, equipment that offers a strong combination of flexibility and precision. Specialized techniques, including SPC methods, were necessary to make both outer eccentric surfaces in conjunction with an inner rounded edge and other edge breaks. Turning, grinding, and heat treating steps were used to make each ABS shaft, made from DIN 100Cr6 material. The outer diameter tolerances were held to meet k5 class (+1 µm/+7 µm) of ISO Tolerance for Shaft. The largest part dimensions were 12mm for outer diameter and 90mm for length. Volume orders of 400,000 pieces were fulfilled with lead times of 3 months, delivering to Texas.
